Create a digital product

For digital creators like you, Filemonk makes it easy to sell your content on Shopify. When you create a digital product in Filemonk, you can automatically deliver digital files, external links, or licence keys to customers when they purchase your Shopify products. This feature transforms any physical product listing into a digital delivery system, enabling you to sell downloadable content like PDFs, videos, software, or access codes seamlessly through your existing Shopify store.

To add your first digital product and start selling, follow these instructions:

Create a Digital Product

  1. Open your Filemonk app from your Shopify admin
  2. Click Digital products in the main navigation menu
  3. Click Add product to start creating your digital product

Choosing Your Product Type

Filemonk offers two ways to create a digital product depending on whether you already have a Shopify product listing.

  • Link Files to an Existing Product (Most Common): Select this option if you already have a product listing in your Shopify store.
  • Create a Product for the First Time: Select this option if you're new to Shopify or creating a dedicated digital product. This option requires the following steps:
  1. Choose I'm creating a product for the first time
  2. Follow the embedded video tutorial to create your Shopify product listing first
  3. Return to Filemonk to link your digital content

Setting Up Product Variants

When you select an existing product, Filemonk will analyze whether your product has multiple variants (like different sizes, colors, or versions). This determines how you can configure digital content delivery for different product options.

Products With Multiple Variants

For products with variants, you have two delivery options:

Deliver for All Variants

This delivery method has the following characteristics:

  • Select When any option is purchased
  • The same digital content delivers regardless of which variant customers choose
  • Useful when all variants should receive identical digital files

Deliver for Specific Variants Only

This delivery method provides the following options:

  • Select Only when a specific option is purchased
  • Choose which specific variants should trigger digital delivery
  • Different variants can have different digital content
  • Perfect for tiered products or version-specific downloads

Choosing Your Content Type

Filemonk supports two types of digital product delivery methods. Your choice determines how customers receive their digital content after purchase.

Downloadable Files

Choose this option for immediate file delivery. This content type offers:

  • Customers download files immediately after purchase
  • Best for PDFs, videos, audio files, software, or documents
  • Files are delivered automatically without manual intervention

Custom Product

Choose this option for personalized or made-to-order content. This content type includes:

  • Content is prepared individually for each order
  • You upload customized files after receiving the order
  • Send notification emails when files are ready
  • Requires a paid Filemonk plan

Linking Your Digital Assets

Once you've configured your product, you can link various types of digital assets. Filemonk supports three main asset types to accommodate different business needs.

Internal Files

Upload files directly to Filemonk with these features:

  • Click Upload files to add new content
  • Supported formats include PDFs, images, videos, audio, and software files
  • Files are stored securely and delivered through protected download links

External Files

Link to files hosted elsewhere with these options:

  • Click Add external file
  • Enter the external URL and display name
  • Useful for large files hosted on your own servers or cloud storage like google drive

Licence Keys

  • Click Add licence key
  • Create licence key tags to organize different types of keys
  • Keys can be auto-generated or manually entered
