Translate the text customers see

Filemonk can show your download page, emails and other customer-facing text in each customer's own language. Once you add translations, customers see the language they shopped in. If there's no translation for their language, they see your store's default language.
Multi-language support is available on paid plans. On the Free plan, customers see your store's default language.

Setting up translations

Step 1: Turn on multi-language support

  1. Open the Filemonk app from your Shopify admin and click Settings.
  2. Open the Other tab.
  3. Scroll to the Multi-language section.
  4. Under Multi-language support, click Turn on.

Step 2: Open the translation screen

Each area has its own translation screen. Click the language icon next to the editor's heading to open it:

  • Download page: on the Download page tab, click Customize, then click the language icon.
  • Email: on the Email tab, open the email editor, then click the language icon.
  • Thank You page: on the Thank You page tab, open the widget editor, then click the language icon.
  • EU consent form: on the Orders tab, turn on Require consent before download (EU), then click the language icon next to it.

Step 3: Add your translations

  1. Choose a language from the Language dropdown. The list shows the languages published on your Shopify store.
  2. If Filemonk has default translations for that language, a banner appears. Click Load default translations or Use defaults to fill in every field at once.
  3. Edit any field to match your brand's wording.
  4. Click Save changes.
  5. Repeat for each language you sell in.

To go back to Filemonk's default text for a language, click Reset all.

How Filemonk picks the language

Filemonk uses the language the customer shopped in on your store. If you haven't translated that language, customers see your store's default language instead. Any field you leave blank also falls back to the default.
