Add tags to Filemonk Orders

The automatic order tagging feature in Filemonk allows you to automatically add custom tags to orders that contain digital products. This feature helps you organize and filter orders in your Shopify admin, making it easier to track digital sales and customize email notifications sent by Shopify.

Setting Up Automatic Order Tagging

To configure automatic tagging for orders with digital products, you need to enable the feature in your Filemonk settings and customize the tags that will be applied.

Accessing Order Settings

  1. From your Filemonk dashboard, click Settings in the main navigation menu
  2. Select the Orders tab from the settings page
  3. Scroll down to find the Add tags section
  4. Click the toggle to enable automatic order tagging
  5. When enabled, a text field will appear labeled Order tags
  6. The default tag value is filemonk_order but you can customize this to match your needs
  7. Enter your desired tag or tags in the text field (multiple tags can be separated by commas)
  8. Click Save to apply your changes

Understanding How Tags Are Applied

Once you enable automatic order tagging, Filemonk will automatically add your specified tags to qualifying orders without any manual intervention required.

When Tags Are Added

Tags are automatically applied to orders when:

  • The order contains at least one digital product managed by Filemonk
  • The order is successfully processed by Filemonk's system
  • The automatic tagging feature is enabled in your settings
  • The order is created or updated in your Shopify store

Viewing Tagged Orders

After tags are applied, you can view and filter them in your Shopify admin:

  1. Go to your Shopify admin and navigate to Orders
  2. Use the filter options to search for orders with your custom tags
  3. Tagged orders will display your custom tags alongside any other order tags
  4. You can use these tags in Shopify's email notification templates and automation rules

FAQs

Q: Will tags be added to all orders or only digital orders?

A: Tags are only added to orders that contain digital products managed by Filemonk. Regular physical product orders are not affected.

Q: Can I change the tags after they've been applied to orders?

A: You can change the tag configuration for future orders, but existing tagged orders will keep their current tags. You'll need to manually update existing order tags in Shopify if needed.

Q: How long does it take for tags to appear on orders?

A: Tags are applied through a background process and typically appear within 1-5 minutes after order creation. During high traffic periods, it may take slightly longer.

Q: Can I use the same tags that I manually add to other orders?

A: Yes, you can use any tag names you want. If you use the same tags as your manual tagging system, they'll work together seamlessly in Shopify's filtering and automation features.

Q: What happens if I disable automatic tagging?

A: Disabling the feature only affects new orders going forward. Orders that were previously tagged will keep their tags, and no new tags will be added to future orders.

Q: Can I see which orders were tagged by Filemonk?

A: Yes, you can filter orders in your Shopify admin by the tags you've configured. All orders processed by Filemonk with tagging enabled will have your specified tags.
